Harvey Gortner, Grantsville, were named as two of those who will serve on a district council of defense for Western Maryland.
The appointment to the eleven-man council was announced Saturday by Governor Herbert R. O'Conor.
The Western Maryland group, one of four district councils named by the governor, will act as co-ordinating agency under the Maryland Council of Defense and in cooperation with local governmental agencies.
Other members of the district committee, which includes Allegany, Garrett, Washington and Frederick counties, are Mayor Harry Irvine, Alan F. Eggleston and Clyde D. Lucas, Cumberland; Richard Sweeney, J. Vincent Jamison and E. Lyster Mobley, Hagerstown; Lloyd C. Culler and William T. Delaplaine, Frederick; Mrs. C. Goodloe Edgar, Williamsport.
