A MAN WHO SLEEPS IN CHURCH
Not a man who sleeps in church. You probably
know such men. I asked one of these pew slumberers
the other day why he went to church with such regularity
when he always slept through the sermon? "It's true I sleep
thru the sermon," he said "but, all the same, I seem to get
something out of it."
That man spoke a great truth. He couldn't tell just what
he got out of it, or why; but he is aware that he gets some-
thing out of it. No use to shut sleepers' eyes. We close our
eyes, we sink into sleep; but eyes do not see, our ears do not
hear around us. But the mind does not sleep: the subconscious mind
of the sleeper is thus awake, always alert, always subject to
impressions. The mind sees, when the eyes do not: the mind
hears when the ears do not: and altho one may sleep under the
voice of a preacher, if that preacher has any worth while thing
to say it will work its impression upon the mind of the sleeper.
The mind stores it away for some memory or the answer to some puzzle sort.
You are often startled by the fact that in groping in your
mind you have a recollection of things previously desired. And
suddenly find the soul have very definite impressions which
sometimes back in the past you may have picked up those im-
pressions in connection with some one in an entirely different question. How
impressions, so deep or even while engaged in a conver-
sation time after you had returned the watch to your pocket you

There are a host of things we don't know about the human
mind. There is a lot of things we don't know about sleep.
We have been so busy with the invention and perfection of
material and mechanical things - mental to our comfort and
well being that we haven't taken time as yet to explore the
