A native of Americus, Ga., Dr. Lewis received his elementary and high school education in Americus. He holds degrees from Morris Brown College, Yale University, University of Chicago and Wilberforce University.

A school administrator and minister, he has achieved outstanding success in both fields. He has served as minister of churches in Georgia, Missouri, California, and Arkansas, and in the field of education has served as president of Morris Brown College; principal of Dunbar Junior College, president, Shorter College and dean of Payne Theological Seminary.
