The menagerie of a well regulated tented institution has always been regarded as the educational division. while the circus proper has its object in amusing and their spheres of usefulness in the amusement field. and are equally necessary in promoting each other's interests.
The Sells-Floto menagerie has always been regarded as the standard by which all others are compared The expense required alone to maintain a menagerie, after the animals have been secured. is enough to stagger the ordinary statistician. In the care of fifty cages of wild beasts and two herds of performing elephants, it is of no consequence or even thought to the average auditor: he pays his money and takes it all in at a cursory glance. well satisfied that he is fully repaid, without once reckoning that half a million dollars would hardly cover what he has just observed.
The student of wild animals will tell you that the lion is the king of animaldom, in no sense as treacherous as other members of the cat family Its manner. except when aroused, suggests strength and reserve, indicating great force when pressed into combative action. It is powerful. yet the whole demeanor of this mighty beast is candor personified. Any keeper will trust a lion under ordinary circumstences, because of its fairness in making an attack. Before it springs it invariably gives a warning. While all that is true of the lion, stealth, deceit and treachery are depicted in the leopard.
The long circus program will be of unusual interest to the beholder on account of the many new and startling features that have been added to these great shows for this season's tour. The parade over the principal streets at 10 o'clock in the morning will give evidence that a worthy program will be given under the tents both afternoon and night. On account of the enormous crowds at night, it is respectfully suggested that the children be taken to the afternoon show. where a more comfortable and better view can be taken of the great menagerie. The big show will be here April 24.
