The New York Central and the Erie railroads, lately got into a difficulty about a crossing at Batavia, which resulted in a suit. The Erie road, in retaliation for the encroachments of the Central, put the fare for passengers from Buffalo to New York down to $5. The Central, to keep even with its rival, did the same, and both roads are carrying passengers at half price. In this warfare the roads are destroying each other and it is very doubtful if the public will gain any in the end by these ruinously low prices.
