Dinner to Mr. Cooke.—Pursuant to the arrangements, announced in our last paper, the officers of our superior court and the bar of Frederick, with many of our citizens, gave a dinner to Mr. Cooke at Taylor's Hotel, on Saturday last, in testimony of their esteem and respect for that gentleman, on the occasion of his intended removal to the city of Baltimore. The Hon. Richard E. Parker presided. Amongst the guests, we understand, was Jas. W. McCulloch, Esq., of the Baltimore bar. The annexed are the only toasts, of many that were given, expressive of the respect and kind feeling of the company toward their honored guest Mr. Cooke, which we have been fortunate enough to procure:

Our guest, John R. Cooke—Honored at the bar for his professional attainments—respected and loved in private life for the excellence of his heart: His fellow-citizens and professional associates of Frederick, tender him at parting their best wishes for his future welfare.

By one of the company. Our guest—In his removal from amongst us, his professional brethren will sustain a double loss:—As members of the bar, they will have cause to lament the absence of a friend and brother whose virtues and talents adorned their profession—whilst, in common with their fellow-citizens at large, they will feel the loss of one whose active and ardent zeal for the public welfare placed him in the front rank of every generous and noble enterprise.

To the first, Mr. Cooke responded in a graceful and appropriate manner, and with expressions of deep feeling.

The bar of Baltimore was also toasted by the company—which sentiment was responded to by Mr. McCulloch in terms of compliment to those offering it, and with assurances of the cordial welcome awaiting Mr. Cooke at the bar of his city.—Winchester Virginian.
