Full Text

The most beautiful diamond by far that I have ever seen was the one found at Kimberley by a little American named Porter Rhodes. I paid twenty-five dollars just to look at it. The sight was a liberal education for a diamond expert. He afterward sold it to the Countess of Dudley for $500,000. It was lost once before it left Africa, and Rhodes presented the Zulu who returned it with a reward of $75.00. —Interview in Chicago Tribune.
