The trial of Otto Kanitz and Caroline Kanitz, who were indicted for arson in connection with the recent fire at Valdez, will take place at Cordova, when the district court meets here on April 2. A large number of witnesses will be summoned in this case.
Judge Brown denied the motion of the defendants' attorneys for a change of venue to Juneau. Motion of the district attorney that the case be tried made, granted and the trial of the case set for April 2, or as soon thereafter as possible. A motion to postpone the trial of the case until May 1, owing to the absence of material witnesses, who cannot be served before that date, was made by attorneys for the defendants, and argument on this motion had, but so far as we know no decision has been rendered.
