One of the company took notice of a resolution in the Commons journals, vol. xiii. p. 767, anno 1701, 14 Will. III. which is in these words: "Resolved, that it is the undoubted Right of the people of England to petition or address the King for the calling, sitting, or dissolving of Parliaments, and for the redressing of grievances."

It is said that several Gentlemen of the first distinction in the county of Somerset have written to the high sheriff to assemble a meeting of the county, in order to consider of a petition to the Throne for redressing the grievances this kingdom at present labours under.
