Let Them Show Their Colors.
Over in Iowa they are having quite a controversy over the republicanism of Smith W. Brookhart, senatorial incumbent, now opposing Coolidge. The effect has been to solidify the anti-Brookhart republicans. It may also have the effect of giving the democrats a victory which is as rare in Iowa as snowballs in June.
The Iowa quarrel is none of our business, Wisconsin having a hot little political fight of its own. Here we have the spectacle of the republican nominees, half-breeds without exception, supporting LaFollette and opposing (either real or covertly) the regular republican nominees, Coolidge and Dawes.
The Herald has no ill feeling against Gov. Blaine (or any the lesser lights in his train) for supporting LaFollette. But we do seriously object to these men calling themselves republicans and asking for republican support when they fail to line up with the national republican ticket, in fact oppose it.
All we want them to do is to call themselves by their real names. Let the issues be well defined and clear cut. For ourselves, and taking the cue from the Blaine faction, the Herald knows what to do. We will vote for: Blaine's opponent, Judge Lueck. To our mind he is the best man and it js certainly time to make a change in state government.
And we SUPPORT Coolidge and Dawes, the REPUBLICAN nominees for president and vice president.
