PHILADELPHIA, February 12.

On Monday last the brave Major Rogers, with Capt. Brewme, arrived here from his long and fatiguing March to Detroit, where he was Sent by His Excellency Gen. Amherst, in order to take Possession of the French Forts there; and from whence he was to have proceeded to Michilimackinac, 360 Miles beyond it, to bring off the French Soldiers that were in the Fort at that Place. But this he could not accomplish, on Account of the Ice, so was obliged to return, after having got within about 200 Miles of it.--The Major met with no Opposition, the People laying down their Arms, and taking the Oaths of Allegiance, agreeable to the Capitulation of Canada, and seemed, in general, well Satisfied with being under an English Government. At Detroit he found betwixt Four and Five Hundred Men capable of bearing Arms; a fine level rich Country, where, before the War, there was a great Deal of Wheat raised. Plenty of Cattle, and the Inhabitants lived very comfortably; tho' they have not done so of late, most of their Cattle being killed, and their Fields not cultivated as usual. As soon as the Arrival of this Gentleman was known the People here, to testify their Sense of his distinguished Merit, immediately ordered the Bells to be rung, and shewed him other Marks of Respect. Yesterday he set off for New York.
