Full Text

Mr. Editor—For several years past we have thought of Dr. John W. Parsons as a suitable candidate for Senator of this District: but have given up our claim to Messrs. Boardman, Bartlett and Claggett, rather than create a division in the republican ranks. This year Dr. Parsons has been regularly nominated at the Greenland convention. He is therefore fairly before the voters of this District as the regular candidate for Senator, and is entitled to their support.—The statements of your correspondents charging the convention with unfairness, intrigue &c. is a mere pretense, got up to help the election of the opposition candidate. It is plainly seen through and will have no weight with the friends of Dr. P. They are many, and are determined to give him their undivided support Dr. Parsons is pretty generally known in this District. He is a firm republican, of good talents, and his character is unimpeachable.—He is in every respect well qualified for the office of Senator, and if elected, will give general satisfaction to his constituents. The insinuations of some, that he is not a good speaker, is another pretense to injure him in the estimation of the people. We do not pretend that he is an orator, or that he is one of those noisy speakers who are forever sounding their own praise; but we do know, that he is capable of speaking on most any subject, when it is found expedient or necessary.
