A STUPID MISREPRESENTATION.

A friend has called our attention to a stupid falsehood in the "Educational Year Book," published by A. S. Barnes & Co. We give the following extract, in reference to Tennessee:

"The State is embarrassed for want of means to develope, as they ought to be, her school resources. The Eastern portion is filled with vice and ignorance, which, if the Light of education could shine through, might become a halo of glory. The mind of these uneducated people is like rich ground run to waste. It is a crying shame that so much good material should be allowed to go uncultivated."

If this is a specimen of the "Educational Year Book," it is of very little value. We are deficient enough in education if the truth were told, without any exaggeration. But that East Tennessee is so far behind other portions of the State or that it is "filled with vice and ignorance" is so utterly false as to need no denial. We have no idea that A. S. Barnes & Co. would make a wilful misrepresentation, but that they rely on some stupid blockhead for at least a portion of their information, is evident.
