LOCAL NEWS.

THE CHARTER ELECTION

This day is the period fixed by the Charter of the city of Washington for the election of a Mayor, to serve two years, one member of the Board of Aldermen, from each of the wards, to serve two years, and three members of the Board of Common Council, from each ward, to serve one year.— The polls will be opened at the following places, from 10 o'clock A. M. to 7 o'clock P. M., under the superintendence of the following commissioners :

First Ward—At the room over the West Market. Commissioners: Messrs. Bates, Stott, and Drury.

Second Ward—At the house adjoining Apollo Hall. Commissioners : Messrs. McLelland, Johnson, and Drake.

Third Ward—At the City Hall. Commissioners: Messrs. McKelden, Harkness, and Grammer.

Fourth Ward —At the Engine House, Capitol Hill. Commissioners: Messrs. Frost, McCormick, and Homans.

Fifth Ward—At the corner of 3d street east and N street south. Commissioners: Messrs. Woodward, Johnson, and W. P. Ferguson.

Sixth Ward—At the office of E. W. Clarke. Commissioners : Messrs. Ellis, Young, and Marshall.
