The Steam Wagon--The experiments with the steam wagon have thus far been unsatisfactory. It was hauled out upon Front street on Saturday afternoon, and an attempt made to propel it, without success. About seven o'clock P. M, with the aid of three yoke of oxen, it proceeded to K. street, through K street, and thence to the Central Race Track, with an American flag streaming at the stern, as though the enterprise had been triumphantly accomplished. It was subsequently announced that it would be tried yesterday, and one or more omnibuses entered to take passengers to see the sight. Steam was gotten up, and another attempt made to start about twelve M, with equal success with the first. It is evident that to insure success a larger boiler must be procured, and an alteration be made in the adaptation of the legs. We understand that it is proposed to purchase, therefore, the pile driver boiler in possession of Mr. Anderson, the boiler maker. Notwithstanding these failures, we learn that Mr. Whipple one of the proprietors has offered to bet $250 that the wagon will beat any trotting horse. and that a party has signified his intention of accepting the wager. We will thus have a fine chance to test the respective merits of steam and horse flesh.-Sacramento Union 12th.
