Whittaker became President of the Atlanta Mutual Building Loan and Savings Association in 1937, an organization which has grown from assets of $10,000 in 1937 to approximately $1,800,000 today. It is located in its own new building, designed, built and equipped by the Bank Building and Equipment Corporation of St. Louis.
Whittaker received his early education at Tuskegee Institute where he graduated in 1909. He received the A. B. degree from Atlanta University in 1915; B. S. from Chicago in 1922 and the M. A. from Columbia University in 1928.
He has served at Atlanta University from 1916 until today as teacher, Dean of the College and Registrar. He has been Director of the Atlanta University Summer School.
Whittaker is also a Board Member of Happy Haven Home and the Atlanta Urban League, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Steele-Pitts Home, Chairman of the Board of Deacons First Congregational Church, member of the Board of the Social Service Index and many other civic and welfare organizations.
