Full Text

We find that the French islanders, remote from the correcting hand of the national government, have in some instances grossly ill used Americans.—

Captain Cheeseman, in the brig Lark, which arrived on Sunday, from Cape Francois, was taken by a French privateer and carried in there. His cargo was taken by the government, who, after breaking many promises of paying for it, necessitated him to sail without compensation. His private adventure, &c. &c. which he sold to individuals, he was equally perplexed in getting pay for; and finally, just before he sailed, he was threatened for complaining of his treatment, to be confined in prison.
