Full Text
"What has Mr. Adams done that warrants the unqualified hue and cry of corruption, what has the cabinet done? Show us Mr. Adams' criminal acts, and we will hold them up to censure. We do not profess to be the organ of party, and should despise to profess ourselves (as some take pride in doing) the tool of party—nor are we blind and deaf, only when blindness and deafness will further certain purposes right or wrong. The truth is, that the head and front of Mr. Adams's offending is, that he is a northern man, and that he occupies and controls stations envied and wanted by other men. Let the true motive be explained. If the secret is not that the grand office is held by a northern man, let those who are in the mysteries of his guilt come forward and disclose their testimony."
