The Republican State Convention nominated a strong ticket. Geo. T. Anthony the nominee for Governor, is one of the ablest men in Kansas. He will make an effective canvass and carry the full Republican vote. The defeat of Mr. Wilder for Auditor is a surprise, yet Mr. Bonebrake is worthy of and competent for the position.

What the Republicans of Southern Kansas most regret is that the Convention did not nominate Judge Lowe for Associate Justice. But the ticket is one which no Republican can refuse to vote. The candidates are all able, honorable men and will make good officers. - Fort Scott Monitor.

The nomination of George T. Anthony by the Republican State Convention has not kicked up the enthusiasm that a gubernatorial nomination in the great State of Kansas should. However, the fiat has gone out, and the next thing to do, we suppose, is to elect him. We do not doubt the gentleman's ability, neither do we doubt his honesty, but we candidly believe that his nomination at this time has added no strength to the ticket. He is a strong temperance man and while this is one trait we admire, it is going to divide the German vote, and the German vote in Kansas is getting to be a big thing. We regret the nomination. - Independence Courier.

It is not often that political conventions rise to the best demands of the times in a nomination like this. We accept it as a most happy omen. It means that hereafter brains shall count for something in Kansas--that the Gov. ernor of an expanding growing, powerful young commonwealth of three fourths of a million of intelligent people shall be himself a leader.

When the old free State struggle was accomplished and Kansas was admitted into the Union she signalized the event by calling to preside over her affairs the man who had been her great leader in the contest, Charles Robinson. It was an appropriate selection. Now at this beginning of the new era in the growth and prosperity of Kansas, when her grand resources and production, are beginning to fill the eye of the nation in this Centennial year of hope and promise, she calls to her chief magistracy the acknowledged leader and foremost spirit of this hour, George T. Anthony. As a whole the ticket is a good one. We believe every nominee is a sober, reputable and honest man. - Lawrence Journal.
