U. STATES CIRCUIT COURT.
Massachusetts District.
Yesterday the session commenced. The court was held in the room of the Supreme Court of the state, to accommodate the concourse of people brought together, by sympathy for the death of Mr. Dexter, in numbers, that the U. S. Court Room could not contain. At 11 o'clock the procession, preceded by the Marshal of the District and his Deputies, moved from the old court house, consisting of the hon. the Judges, the rev. chaplain, (Mr. Lowell) the U. S. Attorney for the District, the officers of the court, the hon the Solicitor General of the Commonwealth, with the sheriff of Suffolk, members of the bar in this and the neighboring counties, citizens and strangers. It passed through Court-street to Cornhill, and School-street. to the new Court House.—When it reached the State Court Room, this was already nearly filled. After the forms, usual at opening of a Court the Throne of Grace was addressed by the Rev Mr. Lowell, in a prayer of great fervor, in which the divine mercy was most devoutly and pathetically supplicated to sanctify, to this community. and the country, the severe loss both have sustained in the sudden death of the honorable man, and the Counsellor. and the eloquent orator."
The hon. Judge Story. then charged the Grand Jurors of the District. and closed with an affecting notice of this afflictive event, in which, though embarrassed by tears, for " on this occasion it was manly to weep," he gave a very comprehensive account of the character of the illustrious deceased, and a biographical outline of his Life. The merits of this highly distinguished performance we attempt not to sketch, as it is understood. at the solicitation of the Grand Jurors, and the Bar, that a copy will be given for the press.—Bost. Gaz.
