Patrolman Grapples With Bernalillo Officer Where He Passes at Irene Thompson With Knife
Patrolman A. Hibler in response to a hurry call arrived at Thompson's home on North Fifth street at 8 o'clock last night. Deputy Sheriff Luciano Garcia lunged at her through the window with a knife.
The thrust missed the woman who was seated in a chair. It hit the door and the patrolman grappled with him. Garcia attempted to stab Hibler but the policeman held his right arm. Garcia is powerful, weighing more than 200 pounds, and Hibler finally had to club him before he dropped the knife.
Garcia was locked in the city jail charged with drunkenness, assault on an officer and assault with a knife.
