BURKE MISSION.
To Rev. W. Capers, Corresponding Secretary of the Missionary Society of the M. E. Church for the Southern Conferences.
Dear Brother,—I send you my first quarterly report for the Burke mission. Nothing of peculiar interest has occurred during this quarter. Fourteen persons have been received on probation; thirty-seven have been taken into full connection; seventeen adults and five children have been baptized: and but one member has been expelled.
As yet, I have done but little by way of giving catechetical instruction, owing to the fact, that the children have been afflicted with measles and whooping cough, and on this account, have been unable to attend regularly. I have, however formed three classes, amounting to seventy or eighty in number; and I expect to have the number increased in a short time.
And, in conclusion, I think I may say, the mission is in a healthy condition. I remain yours, affectionately,
J. W. FARMER.
