Paris, Feb. 17.—In the chamber of deputies today a strong attack was made upon the policy of protection, in which M. Naquet took the lead. Urgency was voted, and the chamber proceeded with the discussion of the bill introduced with the view of increasing the duty on corn. A long and exciting debate followed on the proposal. M. Ferres moved to make the sale of imported wheat a state monopoly, with the view of avoiding contraction of the markets by speculators. The debate was finally adjourned.
