Work on the new armory for this city started last Friday morning when a crew started the excavation and filling. It is expected that it will take a week and a half to complete this part of the work, since there is a seven or eight foot fill to be made at the back of the lot.

Captain R. S. Thornton of the local guard company told a Citizen-News representative that he expects the building will be enclosed by Oct. 1, and that the interior work, such as the plastering and finishing, the laying of the maple floor, etc., should be complete some time in December.

The matter of the erection of the building of the armory came to a head before the State Armory Board on last Thursday, a week ago, when Capt. Thornton and Earl I. Best appeared before that body. At this time the general contract, the contract for the building, was let in the sum of $25,250 to Earl I. Best of this city. The difference between the contract sum and the $26,000 which was pledged by the state and this city goes for architectural and engineering services. — Alexandria Citizen-News.
