EDINBURG, July 30.-(Spl)-The county commissioners court today signed a lease with the Gulf Refining Co. for a building at 1009 Highway avenue in McAllen which will house a proposed NYA work shop.
Commissioner Stanley Melton said that $10,000 worth of automotive machinery owned by the NYA was being moved to the Valley and that the workshop would probably begin operation about Aug. 15.
The county leased the building for the period from Aug. 1, 1940 to June 30, 1941, at $60 a month.
The city of McAllen has agreed to pay $20 monthly in exchange for repairs on city machinery. An additional $15 monthly will be obtained from the federal government for storage of its equipment, Melton said.
McAllen city officials agreed to pay $20 monthly toward the rent after it was found that about $24 monthly would be saved in repairing city machinery. County equipment will also be taken care of by the workshop.
H. C. Green, McAllen, district NYA supervisor, said that additional equipment would be placed in the workshop from time to time, and instruction would be broadened.
