"Be ye also ready."

The gust on the afternoon of the 21st inst. was attended with the most awful thunder and lightning, witnessed in this neighbourhood, for some time. A tree within a few feet of a house was struck, without injury to the building; but a melancholy catastrophe occurred on the Concord road, about a quarter of a mile from the village of Brandywine. A Mrs. PLANKINGTON was returning to town, accompanied by her husband, on horseback, the gust burst suddenly over their heads and Mrs. P. and her horse were instantly struck to the ground- a few heavy breaths convinced to the astonished husband the dying efforts of his beloved wife-she gasped and died!

This catastrophe is equally solemn and affecting—it is a solemn call to us—"be ye also ready" -it is afflicting to the disconsolate husband, who, but a few hours before, had left home in health, and was returning with the partner of his joys and solace of his woes. to their family, when alas! the sudden mandate from a bursting cloud, laid her prostrate in the dust, and arrested him to be the solemn witness of mysterious death.

Thus sudden and unexpected, may unforeseen death arrest us, and in a moment hurry the fleeting spirit to a world unknown. Whether asleep or awake! whether at rest or in action, may the brittle thread be in a moment broken. "God thundereth marvellously with his voice, great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend" therefore, be ye also ready.
