Home News FROM ABROAD.—We have to go to Portland to get Seattle items like this one: "Whilst the Thorn and Darwin party were stopping in Seattle they received an invitation one evening to the house of a prominent merchant. At the appointed time the party were on hand and were ushered into the parlor. After being seated a while they favored the host with some musical selections, and, whilst playing, discovered that a party of ladies and gentlemen had been called in and were indulging in a free dance in an adjoining room. The host next procured a pack of cards and requested Mr. Thorn to favor him and his friends with a few tricks; but our worthy little necromancer saw through the trick the merchant had played in endeavoring to have a free show for himself and friends, politely refused, and, with his comrades, asking to be excused, they glided from the lighted rooms, leaving the host and his party in a discomfited predicament. The next time that this enterprising individual undertakes to set up a show in his residence, he will do well to make an arrangement beforehand, and also to brush up the rules of politeness which would have taught him to honor his friends by introducing them to the talented people whom he wished to entertain them."
