Full Text

Washington City, Dec. 20.

The following article is extracted from the Boston Centinel of Dec. 12.

[The following the article, published in the Enquirer, stating that the Spanish minister in Washington had dispatched a cutter to Cadiz, to inform of the occupation of [?].]

From a consideration of the source from which we derive this article, it may be considered a sort of demi official notice from whom we cannot say; for who the "Spanish minister in [or out of] Washington" is, we know not.

It is remarkable with what complacency this article contemplates the "Spirit" exhibited by the Spanish Congress, which seems to afford the patriotic editor additional gratification from the hope that it may lead them to adopt "acts in retaliation injurious to the commercial interest of the U. States." It is to be hoped that the Spanish authorities will display more prudence than to suffer themselves to be induced by their double dealing allies to engage in so absurd and ill-judged an undertaking as a retaliation on the commercial interest of the U. States. It would be a contest in which they could experience nothing but discomfiture.—N. Y. Int.
