We have heretofore advocated another and equally "practicable" route via this place, by which there would be considerable saving of distance; and grades fully as light. Though South Carolina and Kentucky may adopt the route via Knoxville, and that road be built, it will not be long in the course of Railroad economy before capital may be profitably employed in constructing this important cut off.
We annex the following table of distances, which is said to be correct:
1st Route—via Knoxville.
From N. C. line to Knoxville.. 142 miles
Knoxville to Danville, Ky.......... 163
Total dis. from N. C. line to Danville.... 2173
2d Route—via Sweetwater.
From N. C. line to Kingston.. 65 miles
Kingston to Somerset.... 87
Somerset to Danville... 36
Total from N. C. line to Danville.... 190
3d Route—via Loudon
From N. C. line to Loudon 40
Total dis. from N. C. line to Danville......, 176
