Eleven enthusiastic partisans of the Carnegie philosophy met for the first time Thursday, January 24th, to form a group that is now known as, "The Carnegie Colonists."
Upon receiving Warden Rigg's approval to form this group, eleven men saw another step taken towards progress in the making. As was brought out at the first meeting, the only qualifications needed for membership are enthusiasm, and a minimum requirement of seven completed sessions in the basic Carnegie course. The need for this group was brought to prominence when graduates of the course for the inside, transferred to the Farm Colony and minimum custody jobs, found no place to continue this new found program.
This being the first meeting, the first thing on the agenda was the election of officers. By popular choice, Ray Gittens was elected as President, Jack Sweeney for Secretary, and John Whiton was made Program Chairman.
