Davis Mainspring of Army Team

Doug Kenna Twists Knee

New York, Oct. 19-INS-A 19-year-old Californian, who first gained mild prominence as the substitute for "the greatest football player who ever came to West Point" is today fully established as the brilliant back who might lead the Army juggernaut into national supremacy.

Behind the enviable prominence of this Army mainspring—Glenn Davis, of Los Angeles—lies a story of tough, warlike determination in the face of the realization that his own career lay in the caprices of another man's twisted knee.

West Point's "greatest player" is Doug Kenna, and he was given that designation by Coach Earl Blaik.

It was in Army's Oct. 2 start against Colgate that Davis made them forget Kenna and emerged as a natural gridiron leader.
