Full Text
The season, throughout the U. States,
with the exception of the late hail storm
in Washington and Virginia, is clad in
etherial mildness, and "veil'd in flowers"
has gladdened all our fields.
"The stony tempest which with rushing
sound
Beat the firm glebe, revolting from the
ground :
Swiftly it falls, and as it falls invades
The rising herb, or breaks the spreading
blades;
While-infant flowers that raised their
blooming heads,
Crushed by its fury, sink into their beds."
The spring, although not early, which
always indicates a favorable summer, has
advanced with rapid steps-and the pro-
ductions of the whole surrounding coun-
try,
"Broader and broader yet their blooms
display,
Salute the welcome sun and entertain the
day."
Bost. Intel.
A letter received in this city, dated
Sassafras, Md. June 8th, states that, " on
the evening of the 7th we had one of the
most tremendous hail storms ever known
in this part: it broke all the window
glass, destroyed the fruit and garden
plants, and injured the crops materially.
Its continuance was about five minutes;
the firmament was one continued blaze
of light-the noise which the hail made
in its descent was equal to the loudest
thunder."
