FALL OF WATER IN THE DETROIT RIVER.—The Detroit Advertiser of the 10th, announces that the water has been gradually falling in the river for several years past, but that during the present winter the decline has been unusually great. Actual measurement nearly in front of the new fort in Springwells shows a fall of three feet nine inches since the formation of ice. In passing along the river bank it is noticed that many of the usual watering places are entirely dry.—[Chicago Jour.

The Advertiser knows of no peculiar cause for this falling off other than the gradual fall we have noticed. The Lake and river St. Clair are supposed to share in this deficiency, and so, navigation over the Flats may be very seriously impeded the coming season. It furnishes another and very cogent reason for an appropriation by Congress for their improvement. The water, low as it is, has not yet reached by far the low-water mark of former years. These ebbs and flows of the water are generally supposed to run through periods of from 10 to 12 years.—[Milwaukie Daily Sentinel and Gazette.
