ALEXANDRIA:
WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEBR'Y. 11, 1835

FIRE.-On Monday night, between eight and nine o'clock, a fire broke out in the Cabinet Ware Room and Manufactory of Mr. Phares Throop, on King street, between Columbus and Alfred streets. In a very short time the whole building and its contents were in a blaze. The fire quickly communicated to the two-story frame dwelling house next door, east, occupied by Mrs. Yeaton, and the frame dwelling house next door, west, occupied by Mr. Campbell.— These, with the building in which the fire originated, were entirely consumed. Owing to the active exertions of the fire companies, and the citizens generally, the fire was then arrested, and the adjoining buildings preserved, although they were on fire several times, and in imminent danger during the whole conflagration.
The principal sufferer is Mr. Throop, whose loss, we presume, must have been great in cabinet ware, materials, tools, &c. &c.
The appearance of the fire was threatening, and so great as to be seen distinctly in Washington. Many of the citizens there, with two Engines belonging to the Franklin Fire Company, promptly repaired to our relief, and arrived before the flames were extinguished.- They were received with cheers by the Alexandria Fire Companies, and, after the danger was over, hospitably entertained. We owe, on behalf of our citizens, an expression of thanks for the generous ardor displayed in our behalf by the citizens of our sister city.
As to the origin of the fire, we are sorry to hear it said that it is believed to be the work of an incendiary:- thus giving another warning to all, at this time especially, to be particularly careful and vigilant
We cannot speak in too high terms of praise of the conduct and exertions of many of our firemen. and of the zeal and alacrity displayed by all our Fire Companies. These associations of our citizens are becoming as efficient in organization as they are valuable in purpose and design.
