Catholic Chapel Named For St. Francis Xavier, Jesuit Missionary

The Catholic Chapel at Hadnot Point has been officially designated as St. Francis Xavier Chapel.

Lieutenant Gordon A. Michels, (ChC) USNR, senior Catholic chaplain, announced today.

It was officially dedicated last December by the Most Reverend Eugene McGuinness, Bishop of Raleigh, and until recently was known only as the Catholic Chapel.

St. Francis Xavier, a Spanish Jesuit missionary in the Orient, was born in 1506 and died in 1552. He was one of the founders of the Society of Jesus, a teaching order of the Catholic church.
