Callers at Revenue Office Pull the Corks But Do Not Partake.
Ten half-pint bottles of liquor stood on one of the tables in the internal revenue office in the Federal building today.
They are samples of liquors which the government seized at the New Haven Fruit Brandy Distillery Co.'s plant, 513 Congress avenue, a few weeks ago. An attempt was made to sell something over 1,000 gallons of the confiscated spirits at auction last week, but there were no bidders. The government has got the stuff on its hands and the internal revenue people will try to sell it. When the stuff is sold the buyers must pay the tax of something over $1 per gallon. Quite a number of callers have pulled the corks and smelled of the brandy, but so far no one has sampled it. One of the collectors stated today that it was all right.
