Full Text

Information from Charleston states that Robert Marion, the republican candidate for representative in Congress, has succeeded over Thomas R. Smith, the federal candidate, by a considerable majority. This is, we believe, the first instance in which that city has been represented by a republican, since the establishment of the present constitution. Notwithstanding the reproach, so lavishly thrown upon the present administration, that they are unfriendly to commerce, it is not a little extraordinary that the five great commercial towns are represented in Congress by republican members.--[Nat. Int.
