PROSTRATED ON GROUND NEAR BRIDGE WHEN DISCOVERED.
Lying Near Bridge and Died Upon Reaching Police Station, Where He Was Taken in Coach.
Early this morning passers-by discovered a man lying on the ground near the railroad bridge in Nuevo Laredo. They summoned the police, who tried to walk the man to the police station, but he was too weak to walk, so a coach was summoned and he was lifted in. He died just as the station was reached.
A search of his clothing produced a poll tax receipt in the name of Charles Martin, and the precinct in Bexar county in which he resided showed that his home was in San Antonio. Consul Walsh was notified and immediately began to get in touch with his people.
Mr. Martin appears to be well known in Nuevo Laredo and perhaps through his acquaintances there the whereabouts of his people will be discovered, as it is believed he has a sister in San Antonio.
It is the opinion of the authorities that Martin wandered to the vicinity of the bridge and lay down to sleep. The intense cold and rain proved too much for him and so his death may be attributed to exposure. There were no marks of violence, a small cut on one temple undoubtedly being caused by a fall, and in his pocket was found a $20 bill, which disposes of any theory of robbery and violence.
