American War Machinery Set at Full Speed For Maneuvers
WASHINGTON. April 13. (UP) - The United States army's newly streamlined fighting forces have been ordered turned loose at full speed in a "war" next month against an imaginary foe in a gigantic series of maneuvers, it was disclosed today.
With official Washington worried over the rapid spread of dictatorships and the numerous daring "successes" of totalitarian governments, the nation's military high command will lift the wraps from the army's war machine to find out what it can do defensively.
The "battlefield" area will extend from coast to coast and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico with all branches of the service receiving the most severe tests possible except under actual war conditions.
Most spectacular part of the extensive maneuvers will take place from May 12 to 17 when the air force attempts to defend the northeastern section of the United States against a theoretical enemy aiming to destroy the nation's chief industrial area.
