NEWBURY-PORT, Feb. 3.

In many parts of the United States manufactures of various kinds meet with the greatest encouragement-among which the following are worthy of notice. -In Philadelphia and its neighbourhood (besides great quantities of jeans, fustians, many articles of hard-ware, &c. &c.) are annually woven, stockings, to the amount of £200,000 per annum : They have also a Society for the encouragement of manufactures and useful arts, instituted in 1787, open for the reception of every citizen of the United States, who will fulfil the engagements of a member of the same. The society is under the direction of a President, four Vice-Presidents, and twelve Managers, besides subordinate officers. Each member, on his admission, pays ten shillings, at least, into the general fund ; and the same sum annually, till he shall cease to be a member. Besides this, they have a manufacturing-fund, made up of subscriptions of not less than ten pounds each, for the purpose of establishing factories in suitable places, for the employment of the industrious poor. The subscribers have all the profits arising from the business. The meetings of this society are held quarterly.

In Albany, glass-ware is manufactured to great advantage--In Hartford, glass is made, and large quantities of excellent broad cloths-- In Worcester is a manufactory, in a flourishing state, for corduroys, jeans, thick-sets, &c.---In Boston a Glass-House is built: and a Sail-Cloth Manufactory employs a great number of the industrious poor--In Salem a subscription was lately opened for setting up a Duck-manufactory, and £1500 immediately subscribed--In Beverly is a manufactory for most kinds of cotton goods, which is rapidly improving, affords employ for many valuable citizens, and is likely to enrich the gentlemen who have established it--In Exeter and Haverhill are Duck-Manufactories, recently established, which bid fair to be of general utility.--In Newbury-Port such an enterprizing spirit prevails, for the encouragement of American manufactures, and to raise our own fortunes, that we are
