Full Text

Gen. Taylor.—The recent letters of Gen. Taylor are creating much confusion in the whig party. The prospect now is that the party will be divided, unless the "great embodiment" will withdraw from the field, for "Old Rough and Ready" never surrenders. In one of his late letters, while he expresses a willingness to receive the nomination of the whig national convention, he at the same time gives his whig friends plainly to understand that should he fail to do so, he will still remain a candidate. His game is "heads I win, tails you lose," and should he not be nominated, therefore, he is determined to stand his ground. We shall see whether he has alarmed the whigs so that they will nominate him or not.
