J. Monroe Meck, Esq., of Jefferson, offered the following preamble and resolutions, which were unanimously adopted, and adopted amidst long and loud cheering:

Whereas, This Convention is composed of loyal men from most of the counties of East Tennessee and whereas, they are presumed to understand and reflect the wishes of the loyal people, therefore

Resolved, 1st, That we most heartily approve the election of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson to the Presidency and Vice Presidency of the United States, and we accept their election as a guarantee that the rebellion will be put down.

Resolved, 2d, That every consideration of right and expediency look to East Tennessee as the section of the State that should furnish the Governor, and that our distinguished fellow citizen, William G. Brownlow, of the county of Knox, is our choice.

Resolved, 3d. That copies of these resolutions be furnished the Knoxville Whig, Chattanooga Gazette, and the Nashville papers for publication.

After the adoption of these resolutions, Dr. Brownlow was called for, and very briefly responded, thanking the delegates representing so many counties for the high compliment they had paid him, and for their unanimity in the adoption of these resolutions. He assured them that if chosen for that office, he would use the whole power of the State to rid East Tennessee of all rebel thieves and robbers and took his seat amidst prolonged applause.

Col. Wilson Duggan, of Sevier, was introduced, and made a sensible speech, full of loyalty and sound principles. He was repeatedly cheered. No more enthusiastic or important meeting has been held in East Tennessee since the rebellion commenced. This large delegation represented correctly the loyal people of East Tennessee, have shown by their action that the most loyal men in America are the Union men of East Tennessee.

On motion, the Convention adjourned sine die.

SAMUEL R. RODGERS, Chairman.
L. C. Houk, Secretary
