Doctor ARMSTRONG, of the county of Bedford, Tennessee, has announced, that he is the author of the several political essays, which appeared in the Kentucky Reporter, giving an account of the execution of John Woods, and signed a "Tennesseean."-This he was induced to do, not from a love of fame, but by the threats of several of the parasites of General Jackson, who had publicly avowed, that if they could discover the name of the author of the essays in question, they would call him to the field, or inflict upon him some corporeal punishment. Anonymous letters to this effect, often reached Doctor Armstrong, and as he was not to be intimidated by the threats of a bravado, he gallantly came forward, and said to his assailants, gentlemen I am at your service.
Doctor Armstrong resides in the very heart of Jacksonism-not more than fifty miles from General Jackson. During the last war, he was attached to the United States Army, and was distinguished for his chivalrous deportment. He was with general Jackson, in his Southern Campaigns, and was often an unwilling spectator to his acts of tyranny.
In his letter, surrendering his name, Doctor Armstrong intimates, that he will not be dragged to the field of honour, by any one unless he thinks proper to submit to a summons, and says that he shall not be diverted from his duty, by the threats or denunciations of the champions of the military chieftain.
When he had given up his name, those who had been the most clamorous, and uttered the strongest threats, were suddenly struck dumb, or only whispered "we knew how it would be, and pray who is Doctor Armstrong, he is not worth one's attention."
