SURRENDER THE THREE MEN TO MILITARY AUTHORITIES
THREE DESERTERS FROM FORT MCINTOSH NOW IN GUARDHOUSE
Guard and Two Prisoners Who Escaped to Mexico Last Week Surrendered by Mexican Authorities.
The guard and his two prisoners, all members of the Fourth Cavalry, who made their getaway to Nuevo Laredo last week by swimming the Rio Grande near the post, were brought to the international monument last evening shortly after 7 o'clock and surrendered to the military authorities here by the Mexican authorities of Nuevo Laredo.
It is said that the guard and the two prisoners were doing some work near the river front when they contrived to make their getaway, and at the first opportunity that the sentry was not watching them they ran to the river, jumped in and reached the Mexican side, the guard firing on the sentry, it is reported, as he reached the river banks. The desertion was immediately reported to the American consulate in Nuevo Laredo, they took it up with the Mexican authorities and the three men were soon apprehended and held for deportation, which took place last evening. With Mexican and American authorities co-operating these days the transgressor has little chance of getting away with any of his schemes.
