WASHINGTON, (AP) The Civil Aeronautics Board began an investigation Friday into the overbooking practices of the scheduled airlines.
The board asked the trunk airlines - the companies operating between large cities - to answer within 60 days a questionnaire on both intentional and unintentional overbooking.
The agency said its investigation is "not disciplinary" but is meant to help in the fixing of a future regulatory policy.
An airline overbooks when it reserves more seats for passengers than are available in a flight.
