We copy the following from the last Western Sentinel, for the especial benefit of the Patriot & Flag:
'The Greensboro' Patriot & Flag has upwards of two columns devoted to the recent Democratic celebration at this place, headed by a cut intended to represent Mr. Scales' entry into town, and consisting of a string of borrowed puns, and wretched attempts at original wit. We have no objection to this, for it strikes us that a paper which has done so much to promote the success of Mr. Scales ought to be allowed to participate in celebrating and rejoicing over the victory.' Besides the illustrations (!) already furnished, the editors promise to give pictures of 'Col. Stafford's residence,' the 'marshals of the day,' the 'brass band,' and also of 'the junior editor of the Sentinel,' &c.
We have a fondness for pictures, and hope the editors will carry out their design; especially in respect to the marshals and speakers, to whom it is hoped the artist will do full justice, as they are all exceedingly jealous of their personal appearance. When this series of engravings shall have been published, we hope the editors will engage the services of their 'artist' to present to the readers of the Patriot a correct likeness of Michael S. Sherwood—otherwise designated the 'green-eyed monster,' as he appeared after his overwhelming defeat for the Legislature last summer. This will be especially gratifying to his 2,000 enthusiastic political admirers in Guilford. We suggest, further, that the 'artist' then prepare a sketch of the features of James A. Long, taken as they appeared immediately after learning of his defeat for State Senator from the strong Whig county of Davidson, a few years since, and the triumph of his Democratic competitor, Col. Hargrave. It is presumed that these will furnish a pleasant contrast to those now in course of preparation, and add dignity and emphasis to the whole series.'
