But Edmund Loveland's Story Does Not Satisfy Glens Falls Authorities — Poison Probable Cause of Two Deaths
Glens Falls, N. Y., Jan. 19.—It is strongly suspected by the authorities here that Edmund Loveland, who died suddenly today, committed suicide by poison after having poisoned his wife who died yesterday morning without medical attendance. Immediately after the woman's death Loveland attributed her illness to eating pork and declared that he had in vain tried to get a physician to attend her. Loveland appeared to be much perturbed when the coroner took charge of the body and announced that an autopsy would be performed. While preparations for the autopsy were being made today Loveland was taken ill and died with symptoms of poisoning within two hours. An analysis will be made of the stomachs of both. Neighbors of the Lovelands say that the couple were drinking together during the greater part of Sunday night. The house in which the Lovelands lived was the scene, five years ago, of the mysterious murder of a gypsy named Sharkey.
