SENATOR OF THE FOURTH DISTRICT
All will admit the great need of a first class man to represent the Fourth Senatorial District of this city, made vacant by the resignation of Mr. Eustis.
Our Legislature imperiously demands such a man for such a district, embracing, as it does, so large a share of the wealth and intelligence of this community. Several gentlemen of ability and standing have been suggested. I propose to add to that number the name of a gentleman, of whom it is no disparagement of the other nominees to say, that in experience, in judicial, political and historical knowledge and capacity he is immeasurably the superior of them all.
I refer to Randell Hunt, the leader and Nestor of our bar, who, more than thirty years ago, proved himself as able and reliable in a political station as a member of our Legislature, as he has always shown himself in the sphere of a counsellor at law, an advocate at the bar and a professor of law in our university, who has lost none of that vigor, that clearness of perception, that grasp of intellect and knowledge of men and affairs, and thorough familiarity with the history of our State and its present condition and needs, which have for more than a quarter of a century distinguished him as one of the most reliable and faithful of our citizens and public servants.
Regarding the grave and difficult duties of our Legislature, the demand for experience, and especially for a knowledge of jurisprudence, of legislation, of wise and carefully drawn statutes, can there be any hesitation among the intelligent voters of this district in preferring a man of the calibre, experience, antecedents and peculiar fitness of Mr. Randell Hunt to any other of the several worthy gentlemen who have been named for this place?
