ST. SIMONS, (GA.) OCT. 10.
The brig Three Sisters, Lane, master, from Savannah to N. York, out 6 days, put in here in a storm, about 10 days ago. The captain went off direct by land to Savannah, for hands; since which I have not heard from him. At his request, I sent a boat and several negroes on board the vessel (about six miles from me) to help his mate to put the vessel in order, as a part of his crew were sick and one had died the preceding day. My people found the second mate lying dead on the cabin floor, and the first mate, six seamen and two passengers, all sick, and unable to bury their dead. I had them all brought ashore. One of the passengers, an old man named Samuel Lake, died the next day. The first mate has ever since been very ill, and I hardly expect he will recover. Indeed, the whole are very low, and their recovery doubtful. I employed a Doctor, and I have had them well nursed. The vessel, I am told, belongs to a Mr. Story of New-York. Believing that she is infected, no person will stay on board. She is therefore, quite abandoned, but lies safe. I hope her captain will return soon
"After Mr. Lake's death, two hundred and forty eight dollars were found in his pockets. I sealed his small trunk until Capt. Lane, shall return."
