We have received, per mail, New Orleans letters and papers to the 14th December. At that time the place continued in possession of the French. General Wilkinson and Governor Claiborne were at Fort Adams the 7th, making preparations for the possession of the country. A vessel had arrived there from Jamaica, giving an account of the evacuation of St. Domingo, and stating that the English, conceiving it dangerous to keep the French troops in Jamaica, had chartered several Danish vessels to embark them for the Mississippi. This had occasioned considerable uneasiness; and the American forces were anxiously looked for.
